Fun with fondant

The last two weekends proved to be a continuation of my exploration in fondant work. (see my posting on 3/11/2011 for my 1st attempt!).  The best part of these two cakes was it provided me with an opportunity to collaborate with my sister Cindy who also happens to own a baking company called Cynsational Delights (http://www.cynsationaldelighst.com/).

Monster Party

This 2 tiered cake was for a 3 year old's birthday party. The party girl is a huge fan of monsters and so we really let our imagination run wild in terms of creating a cute and not too scary trio of monsters to help her celebrate her big day...

The original party monsters

Cake was a vanilla bean cake with peach and whipped cream filling and was covered in chocolate fondant. The color scheme for the monsters and other design accents came from the initial inviation for the party.

Rugrats Themed Birthday Cake

This second cake was a twist on the Rugrats Characters. This was a much harder cake for me in that this really was my 1st attempt at actually trying to recreate an established character out of fondant. The cake was a chocolate cake with fresh berry filling and frosted in butttercream. The customer requested Chuckie and the Raptor from the Rugrats Movie.

Chuckie and Raptor, waiting to boogie at the party!
Our "Chuckie" was a more grown up version of the character (hey this was a party for a 21 year old-no minors allowed!) and to me resembled more a an oranged hair harry potter than Chuckie lol! Raptor was much more straight forward to create.
