I was looking over some old photos from when I first started this baking oddessy and realized that I never got around to posting them. I hope you enjoy.
Spring time cake
This cake was a final project cake for a cake decorating class. It was an egg shaped cake and featured royal icing flowers, butterfly and bird. The buttercream was applied in a basketweave pattern and I was pretty please with the final look. Not bad for my 1st attempt at this technique.
Cupcakes: Who doesn't love cupcakes especially when they are dressed up like this?
Top row (w/ green frosting): Choloclate cupcakes with vanilla buttercream
Second row (w/ red frosting): Vanilla bean cupcakes with vanilla buttercream
Third row (w/ white frosting): Red velvet cupcakes with creamcheese frosting.
Playing with frosting techniques
This cupcake grouping was a study of different piping techniques for buttercrem frosting. It was one of my first attempts at learning how to create different flowers.
Fondant Bow cake:
This was one of my first attempts at really working with fondant. If I remember correctly, I believe that the cake was an almond cake with an apricot glaze and amaretto mocha filling. This really was a turning point in moving away from buttercream work and really start learning more about how to utilize fondant not only to cover a cake but as a decorative element.
